Los Angeles Tenth District’s Past President Legacy Scholarship Program was founded in honor of the past presidents who have served the Los Angeles Tenth District PTSA since 1920. These amazing volunteers have dedicated many years of service advocating for all Los Angeles Unified School District students. Their love and dedication will carry on through this scholarship program to assist students in reaching their goals after high school.

This scholarship aims to acknowledge the achievements of high school seniors for volunteer service in their school and or community to incentivize students to continue their education.

Scholarship Award Components: Three (3) $5,000; Four (4) $2,500; Five (5) $ $1,000 scholarships which will be selected by the LA Tenth District PTSA scholarship committee. 

Part 1 and Part 2 must be completed in the Los Angeles Tenth District PTSA with the link provided or QR Code no later than January 12, 2024, 11:59 pm NO EXCEPTIONS

Eligibility, Guideline, and Procedure

Eligibility 

• Be a California resident.  

• Graduating from our Los Angeles Tenth District PTSA service area public high school in California June 2024.

• A member of their high school PTSA in good standing. Applicant must be a member of this current school  year 2023-2024

• Proof of at least 40 Hours of Community Service

• Please use your personal email. Not your school LAUSD email

• Part 1 Applicant must submit:

• An official transcript showing a GPA of 2.5 or higher for the senior year fall semester grade report.

• A copy of the applicant’s current PTSA membership card. 

• An essay

• A digital vision board 

• Proof of at least 40 Hours of Community Service

Please note the decision of the committee and judges are final.

Procedure

Part 1

• Applicant submission  All files must be in pdf or jpeg format

1. An official transcript showing a grade point average of 2.5 or higher for the senior year fall semester grade report.

• File name format :  your name + last name + Graduating year + transcript ie, John Smith class of 2024 transcript= johnsmith2024transcript.jpeg or .pdf

2. A copy of the  applicant’s current PTSA membership card. 

• File name format :  your name + last name + Graduating year + membership ie, John Smith class of 2024 membership= johnsmith2024membership.jpeg or .pdf

3. An essay

• responsibility or role in PTSA if applicable*

•  educational goals

•  your career plans, goals and objectives

• other information you feel would be valuable to the selection committee 

• Also, for all school service-related activities, including any service you provide to others in your school or other schools, please list without using abbreviations for any organizations you are referencing and your volunteer service in the community. 

• File name format :  your name + last name + Graduating year + essay  year ie: John Smith class of 2024 essay= johnsmith2024essay.pdf

4. A digital vision board 

• A statement to explain your vision board. 100 words or less.

• File name format : your name + last name + Graduating year ie, John Smith class of 2024= johnsmith2024.jpeg or.pdf

5. Proof of at least 40 Hours of Community Service 

• Must be on a company, business, organization letterhead

• File name format : your name + last name + Graduating year + hrs ie, John Smith class of 2024 hrs= johnsmith2024hrs.jpeg or .pdf

• Scholarship recipients 

1. Certificate of Award and Recognition at our Annual Gala in May

2. Scholarship recipients must provide proof of college, trade, or vocational enrollment and proof of high school completion submitted to the link in the award award letter.

3. As soon as you send your request, an email confirmation receipt of your request and a record of your submission. Please give our committee, PTSA Tenth District Board and office staff time to process the request about 10-14 business days. NO EXCEPTIONS

Two (2) Letter of recommendation submission **ONLY to be submitted by the Reference*

Two (2) formal reference letters on company letterhead 

• one (1) Teacher or administrator

• one (1) Community Member (work/volunteer manager, supervisor, clergy, community leader, coach, etc.)
